Courgette & Cucumber Plants

Courgette & Cucumber Plants

Courgette & Cucumbers are one of the most productive of vegetables and one of the most rewarding to grow too. A single plant will often produce up to twenty courgettes and the flowers are edible too.

How to grow

As long as you ensure you space plants around 3ft apart and keep on top of watering and feeding these plants are relatively problem free. Plant once all risk of frost has passed.

Position

Courgette & Cucumbers enjoy a sunny and open site. Ensure they have adequate sunlight throughout the day and are not shaded by other crops.

Soil

These plants thrive in an area of well dug soil with plenty of added organic matter, such as well-rotted home made compost, manure or multi-purpose compost. This will ensure that plants are fed well and can access much needed water.

Care

Courgette & Cucumbers are trouble free plants to grow. You need to be vigilant with watering and feeding your plants to get the best results possible. Growing with Water Beads would be a good idea if you don’t have the time to water regularly. You should feed plants initially with a well balanced fertilizer to ensure good growth and tomato fetilser to improve cropping when courgettes are developing.

Harvesting

Harvest regularly to ensure more Courgette & Cucumbers develop. Courgette & Cucumbers are at their best when young and can quickly grow to the size of a marrow if left unpicked. Pick when Courgette & Cucumbers are around 10cm (4”) in length.

Top Tip

Mulch around the base of plants with polythene or straw as this will help to conserve water and stop the Courgette & Cucumbers rotting from coming in to contact with damp soil.
