 Impatiens
Every gardener knows of the Bizzy Lizzy, the archetypal bedding
plant for many gardeners all around Britain and other parts of the
world. Garden designer Tony Smith used Impatiens en mass at RHS Chelsea
and its popularity has risen again since. Our full range of Impatiens
includes exciting new plants and some tropical beauties that will
brighten up beds and borders, as well as conservatories and greenhouses. If you would like to
grow your own plants from seed please visit our Links page for a complete seed range.
How to grow
These
plants are easy to grow annuals and extremely rewarding in terms of
blooms. Upon receiving your plants water them well and plant them in
their final positions as soon as possible to get the best results. If
you cannot plant as soon as you receive them store them in a light but
cool place such as an unheated greenhouse or conservatory.
Position
Place
plants in a sunny and sheltered spot but avoid planting Impatiens in an
area that will receive the hot mid day sun as this may increase the
chance of leaves being scorched and blemished. These plants are perfect
for planting in part shade and will thrive in these conditions.
Perfect for beds, borders, containers and hanging baskets. They
can even be grown indoors in a cool conservatory or room.
Soil
A
soil that is free draining and moist is perfect for these plants.
Incorportate plenty of well-rotted organic matter, such as garden
compost or manure, in to the soil or alternatively plant in multi-purpose compost. Do
not allow plants to become waterlogged as this may increase the
likelihood of disease.
Care
Water plants regularly
and apply a general fertiliser every 2-3 weeks
to increase blooms. Check for pests and disease regularly and treat
accordingly. We have a range of pest control measures available to
help protect your plants.
Top Tip
Water Impatiens
early on in the day to avoid leaving them wet in the cold night air as
this may reduce flowering. You may even wish to install an automated irrigation system to make this easier.
