 Other Flowering Annuals
Chocolate Cosmos A beautiful perennial, with sumptuous, velvety, bronze flowers produced above lance-shaped, blue-green foliage from June to September. The aroma of this new variety is even more chocolatey than Cosmos Atrosanguineus and it's more compact too, so may not need staking. Great for growing in a sunny border and looks lovely when planted with other hot colors. To minimize frost damage, protect the tuberous roots with a cloche or overwinter in a frost-free environment.

Convolvulus A wonderful, evergreen shrub with cup-shaped, white flowers with pale yellow centers from late spring to summer. This plant is an asset to the garden for its shiny, silvery foliage, as well as its flowers. It is happiest in a hot, sunny border where it contrasts well with blues and purples, and it also looks stunning cascading over a wall. In areas with cold, wet winters it is best grown in a container.

Pimpinella An unusual plant which adds a loose informality to early summer plantings. Flat heads of tiny flowers, like a deep pink cow parsley or Queen Anne's Lace are held on stiff, wiry stems, where they will attract passing bees and butterflies. The leaves, which are long and finely cut, grow from the base of the plant, so that the airy flowerheads are unecumbered by foliage. This perennial prefers a sunny position in a freely draining soil where it may happily naturalize and set seed.

White Himalayan Poppy A much - coveted white Himalayan poppy, which produces cup - shaped flowers in summer, that open out to resemble 8 - 10cm (3-4") saucers. They appear on bristly stems that rise from amongst rosettes of toothed bluish - green, deciduous foliage. It looks lovely growing in a partially shaded, woodland setting. Often short-lived, it can die after flowering, so it is advisable to let it develop several crowns before it is allowed to flower, as this will help encourage perennial growth.
