Petunias

Petunias are a favorite of many gardeners and help to add masses of much loved color to bedding schemes, containers and hanging baskets. Our selection is made up of single flowering plants, doubles, trailing plants and standards. There is a Petunia for nearly every gardeners need and our great value plants are sure to impress. How to grow

Petunias are excellent plants for all your  bedding needs and require little attention throughout the year. Keeping up with general feeding and watering will ensure of proliferation of blooms throughout the summer and a true spectacle.

Position

Petunias enjoy being placed in full sun and will grow in a slightly shady spot, however, this may reduce the number of flowers produced. To get the best from your plants ensure that they have some shelter from cold winds that may slow growth or damage plants and flowers. Petunias should be planted after all risk of frost as they are not fully hardy.

Soil

Petunias enjoy a free draining and water retentive soil. You can improve your garden soil by adding plenty of organic matter, such as well-rotted garden compost, manure or multi-purpose compost. This will help to improve drainage, warm soil in the earlier part of the year and hold on to moisture. The latter is extremely important in the hot summer months.

Care

Petunias, like most plants, require regular watering in summer months. It is essential that this is maintained as warm weather and lack of watering may reduce or even stop plants flowering. We have a full range of watering solutions available and an irrigation system may help with maintenance. Feed your plants with a well-balanced fertilizer to improve overall vigor and health of plants.

Top Tip

Remove faded flowers to encourage repeat flowering and improve the overall display.
