Snowdrops
Perhaps the first noteworthy bulb to rear its head late winter is the
Snowdrop. Often planted in drifts to great effect but equally admired in a garden
pot for close appreciation of their scent and beauty. Snowdrops are very
hardy and can flower from early January through to March. Snowdrops, otherwise known as 'Galanthus' thrive in woodland and are
often planted in the shade of trees to good effect.
In the right conditions they will multiply and can be split every three
years or so. If feeding snowdrops then a leaf mulch is as good a
fertiliser as any.
