Find a wide range of seeds on our links page. All offer you a great choice, from fiery chillies to crisp sweet pepper varieties, and each range gives you that vital head start in growing your own.

How to grow

Both peppers and chillies are simple to grow, given the right conditions and even easier when bought as plug plants. As chillies and peppers are warm climate plants they need protection from cold weather.  We suggest that you grow them indoors, on a windowsill or in the conservatory, or alternatively you could start them off in the greenhouse.  When temperatures have risen in Summer you continue to grow under cover or move them outdoors to enjoy the full benefits of the sun.

Position

Unsurprisingly these plants like sun.  Position plants in a sunny but sheltered spot, away from drafts or risk of wind damage.  As plants grow repot in to larger containers and ultimately a 5 liter pot should suffice.

Soil

A good multi-purpose compost is the perfect growing media for these plants.

Care

As incredibly thirsty plants it is vitally important that you keep a check on moisture levels, after all a plant requires water to produce succulent peppers and chilies. A weekly feed with a balanced fertilizer is advised in the early stages of growth and once flowers appear a high potassium tomato fertilizer should be applied to provided to improve the quality of produce.

Harvesting

Harvest when fruits are plump and have ripened fully.  Most varieties will change in color , from green to red or orange but you should always refer to the information provided on purchase.  Simply cut the stalk with a sharp knife and eat when ready.

Top Tip

Stake plants when they reach 20cm in height and replace with larger stakes as plants get taller to avoid them breaking under the weight of fruit.
