Tulips
Often associated with Holland the tulip, believe it or not, is thought
to originate from mountainous regions with temperate climates. Tulips,
the harbinger of Spring, are a vibrant reminder that winter is almost
through. Tulips are available in a huge range of colors so finding a
bloom to suit your garden will not be difficult, perhaps one of the
reasons for their popularity.
Tulips reach for the sky with a colorful flower foremost supported
by a sturdy stem.
Commonly seen in large numbers on public
display tulips have a striking effect but can be grown in clumps or garden pots with equal admiration. From the
simple elegant white Tulippa Purissima to the more vibrant tulips there's sure to be a tulip
that will bring a smile to even the most miserable passer by.
Garden care:
In September to December plant bulbs 15-20cm deep
and 10-15cm apart in fertile, well-drained soil. Alternatively, allow 7-9 bulbs per 30cm sq. After flowering dead-head
and apply a balanced liquid fertilizer each week for the first month.
Once the foliage has died down naturally lift the bulbs and store in a
cool greenhouse.
