 Wallflowers
Wallflowers are excellent Spring bedding plants
and although they are often used as annuals they are in fact biennial or
perennial plants which are often planted in the previous autumn to
flower in the following spring. Wallflowers come in
a range of colors and add color and often fragrance to the garden. If
you would like to grow these great
plants from seed please view our lnks page far a full seed selection.
How to
grow
Wallflowers are extremely easy to grow and very
hardy plants, much hardier than your typical bedding plant. When your
plants are delivered try to
plant them in to their final positions as soon as possible. If you
cannot plant straight away
ensure that plants are watered well and stored in a cool and light room
or
greenhouse until you can move them in
to the garden.
Position
Wallflowers enjoy a sunny spot in the
garden and
can be planted in a multitude of positions or containers. They make great edging
plants and look
wonderful when planted in large drifts.
Soil
As a member of the Brassica family,
wallflowers
require fertile soil that is rich in organic matter. If you live in an
area with primarily acidic soil you may
wish to add garden lime to improve your soil. Add plenty of organic
matter, such as well-rotted garden
compost or multi-purpose compost, which
will help to improve drainage but
provide enough moisture for plants.
Care
After planting your wallflowers they will
require little extra care. Regular
watering will be required and in high summer it may be essential. We
have a full range of watering
solutions available and an irrigation system may help with
maintenance. Feed your plants with a well-balanced
fertilizer to improve
overall vigor and health of plants.
Top Tip
Pinch out the growing tips of you plants to
encourage the development of side shoots. This will aid in creating bushy
plants with masses of flowers.
